OWL MAIL

Wizards might not text with a mobile phone all that often, but they do have other methods of communication available when it comes to a quick chat with their mates (or enemies) at any hour of the day.

Post your characters, name, and preferences in the title area. You can include a generic starter if you want, or just post a blank. Anything goes.

1. OWL MAIL
This might be a little slow for quicker chats, especially if you're close by, but it's good to give the bird some exercise!

2. FIRE CALL
Just pop your head into that fire and chat away. Probably not recommended for drunken calls.

3. ENCHANTED MIRROR
Those little reflective surfaces that show your friend's face whenever you might need to tell them something. Maybe you can enchant them to connect to any reflective surface around your chosen contact? (Maybe not the bathroom...)

4. HOWLERS
Ever received one? It's supposed to be absolutely horrible.

5. OTHER MAGICAL COMMUNICATION
The ones above are hardly the only way wizards can reach out to each other for a quick chat. Feel free to invent new items or use something like enchanted notebooks that you write in and the other sees the text at their end. You could also use flying letters, talking portraits, or, well, cellphones, if you will.

HOGWARTS:
A JAMJAR MEME
OOC plotting thread

FIRST TIMERS:
Wizards of all ages and from all times: whatever you were doing, wherever you were - none of that matters now. You've been brought to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. You’ll find yourself in the Great Hall under a starry sky, illuminated by the light of a thousand candles.

What happened? Why were you brought here? How were you brought here? All questions to be answered, perhaps. But first, mingle with your kind and find a seat for yourself. This will be your home for a while.

Because there is no leaving. Student, staff, you with nothing to do - all of you trapped inside the school grounds.

Sorting to houses
Those of you who have not been sorted into your houses, you're guided to sit on a stool while an old hat will contemplate a proper house for you. After, you can join your housemates at their long table.

The ghost of the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, will soon give a speech once the last student is sorted...

"The very best of evenings to you! Now… to our new students, welcome. To our old students, I hope you've enjoyed the start of another year of magical education!"

He will warn you about the anti-curse charm set upon Hogwarts and how it will bring harm in equal measures to yourself. He will urge you to stay calm and have a lemondrop; they’ll be provided at all tables.

OLD STUDENTS:
A month has passed. Some of the wizards that arrived with you have mysteriously disappeared as days pass on, but the school rolls further into a beautiful autumn. A routine has been reached; it seems this might even be more peaceful than the experiences that most of you have from your school years. There's quite a bit of room in the dorms, definitely not as many students this year in Hogwarts. Occasionally, you might have seen a ministry wizard, an auror, or a harried worker speeding their way to the headmaster's office. It's hard to catch the, but if you do, they seem irritated of the interruption and not likely to spill any details, not matter how persistent you may or may not be.

PROMPTS:
I. New residents arrive
One morning the sorting hat is brought back into the Great Hall and it sings its song as a new influx of wizards arrive to Hogwarts. You might meet familiar faces or completely new faces. They're wizards of all ages and times.

II. Dorms under duress
Did we say that it's been nice and easy in the dorms? Well, that's about to change. Dumbledore's ghost announces at breakfast that all students and current Hogwarts residents have been moved to Gryffindor tower for the time being. Your trunks and belongings have already been transported there, all trunks in a state of disarray and hastily stamped with a symbol. Even teachers will have to relocate into rooms closer to the Gryffindor tower. He assures you that this isn't permanent, but for the time being the other dorms are out of bounds. Rooms will be sorted randomly to be fair and even teachers will have to share. Refer to this thread for rooming arrangements. If, on the off chance, you do manage to sneak back into your house's dormitory, you may notice the random Ministry member poking about, casting inspection spells. Your bedroom will be sealed off by a spell if you manage to get that far, and it won't be long before someone from the Ministry notices your presence and kicks you out.

III. Full moon rises
Of course the day comes when the full moon rises. Your werewolf population is quite large. What are you going to do about it? Will anyone raise the topic publicly? Did someone brew a wolfsbane potion?

IV. Stargazing in the astronomy tower
As the nights grow darker but not yet cold, it's the perfect time to arrange an overnight stargazing gathering. Grab your blanket and gather in the tower to look at the sky. Maybe you want to cuddle up with someone to ward off the chill. Or are they getting too close for comfort when plenty of wizards cram up in the astronomy tower? The house elves have provided tea or alternatively coffee and a small spread of cakes and cookies.

Dumbledore would like you all to note few things, Hogwarts attendees:

1. This will be a continuous, no commitment necessary “storyline.”
What does that mean? Depending on the level of interest, there will be at least one post per month on the 3B-DR that will continue the storyline which begins here. Players are encouraged to make top-levels in the dressing room if they want to keep this verse going with their characters. Madame Rosmerta’s made a tag specifically for this.

2. Multiple versions of characters at various ages are welcome.
Whether that means there’s three Harry’s all in fifth year, or one Harry in first year, a second in third year, and a third in sixth year is up to you. All three Harry’s could also interact, depending on player preferences. AU versions of (HP)canon and non-(HP)canon characters are also welcome. Sometimes people disappear from Hogwarts and sometimes they come back.

3. Schoolwork
Dumbledore's ghost will invite all characters of age and knowledge to teach their specialties to the younger wizards. If your character could be possibly a teacher, or is interested in teaching, refer to this thread to sign up for a teaching position, you can also edit your comment or post another course under your own thread if you wish to do something different in one of these posts. The courses do not need to be anything serious (unless you want them to be). If your character would be interested in a course, you can look it up from the character's toplevel. Your character doesn't need to be of student age to participate in courses. (They're free for all!)

4. Sign up for your house.
Here is a thread for all the Hogwarts houses that your character could be sorted in.

5. This means… war!
Are you a Death Eater? A member of the Order? Rival students? It’s likely your character will encounter someone they don’t get along with. Duels are fine, but beware that any attacks meant to cause harm (curses) will backfire on the caster. If your character doesn’t care that damage will also bounce back to them, then Dumbledore’s ghost will be intervening. He won’t tolerate harm to any of his students… even if it’s harm to Tom.

6. Housecup
Of course points will be awarded and taken away by teachers and prefects. You can leave a comment in this thread for the points taken or given. Madam Rosmerta will add them up together for the next post. You can also sign up for a prefect role. Each house has one and that one will change in each post. First come, first serve is the rule, except if your character was a prefect in the last post, you can't sign up in this one. (Trying this one more time and if you don't like it, removing it from the next post.)

    1. Toplevel with your character
Name in the title line. Do not leave an empty toplevel. Write a starter like you would to a game event. Link to preferences if you’d prefer.

    2. Tag other characters
The name of the game is interaction. Why is your character here? Do they want to be here? Are they being reunited with lost loved ones?

    3. Have fun!
Dumbledore (and Madame Rosmerta) is watching. Behave yourselves. Don’t godmod, infomod, respect other players, etc.

THREE BROOMSTICKS:
A MINGLE MEME

After a long day, you find yourself tired, achey, in desperate need of a drink, and maybe even a pillow to rest your head on. Three Broomsticks is a warm refuge from the freezing cold snow gusting outside.

"Welcome to the Three Broomsticks, luv! What can I get for you?" Madam Rosmerta is bright and cheery, heralding the bar where a number of wizards are already seated, wetting their whistles with ale or butterbeer.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Post with your character, noting their name/canon in the subject, and any preferences.
2. Roll a number and tag out to others.
3. Profit.

TIMELINE
a) NORMAL. It's just another day in your character's life. Nothing to see here.
b) TIME HAS NO MEANING. Obligatory option to allow the different generations to interact. Is your character part of the younger crowd, and you always wanted an opportunity to thread with their parents? Maybe now, with the aid of a Time-Turner, you can make it happen!
c) MISC. Make something up. It could be an AU universe where anyone from anywhere can be dragged into the Three Broomsticks. Parents or children can be your character's classmate or colleague, instead. The dead never died. Those from other worlds can have an established life, here.

OPTIONS
01. PARTY ANIMAL. You're drunk, rowdy, and ready to have a good time. Did you receive good news? Crashing someone's get-together? Meeting up at the Three Broomsticks after work with your crew? Stopping by after watching the Quidditch World Cup? Who cares, let's shake things up (just be sure to give Rosmerta a good tip before you go.)
02. GOSSIP AND RUMORS. Drunks are always easy to coax into sharing the latest gossip in the wizarding world. The warm setting makes it even easier to get someone to open up to you, or for you to blab to someone else.
03. SCHEMING. There's a war going on, don't you know? Careful what you say during a meeting, you don't know who might be eavesdropping. Are you undercover? Trying to stay under the radar, whether it's the Ministry's, Order's, or a Voldemort-sympathizer on your tail?
04. LONER. There's no such thing as being alone here. Your character might not want the company, but company's coming anyway, pal.
05. THE DATING LIFE. Why would you think bringing your date here is a good idea? It's loud and rowdy, and you're sure to have someone crash into your intimate moment. Maybe that's a good thing, depending on who you're here with. Are you the crasher, or the crashee?
06. FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT. Here we go. It's inevitable for some drunk to get a little too rowdy. Are you that drunk? The one on the receiving end? Are you giving poor Rosmerta a hand by breaking up the debacle? Or you could be the one who is helping the poor soul who got clobbered. Yikes, that'll leave a shiner.
07. FRISKY. When the booze is flowing, there's always a chance for someone to get hot and bothered. Did someone catch your eye at the bar? Flirting up a storm with your date? With a little liquid courage, you too can admit your eternal feelings for that one person... even if they're a sworn enemy. Take it upstairs, you crazy kids.
08. SPIKED DRINK. Didn't your mama ever tell you to keep an eye on your drink? Now look what's happened, you drank something you weren't supposed to! Are you the poor sap who got hit with a love potion, some luck, or are you suddenly sporting some rainbow-colored hair? Go crazy with the results!
09. FIRST MEETING. Everyone's got to meet for the first time at some point. Maybe you get along asap. Or it could take you some time to warm up to each other. Are you coworkers, and this is your way of extending the olive branch after a job gone good or bad? Maybe you need something from this person.
10. WILDCARD. Choose any option above, or make up your own scenario.

HARRY POTTER AU MEME

You're a wizard! Or perhaps you're a magical creature or a ghost. More importantly, where do your loyalties lie? Are you the Dark Lord or one of the Death Eaters? Perhaps you teach at Hogwarts or work at the ministry. Are you a member of the Order of Phoenix? Are you a student in Hogwarts? In which house did the Sorting Hat place you?

Leave a comment with your character's name and canon and your preferences in the title line. Then put down a few ideas about your character in your top level. Both AU characters and canon characters are welcome.

List of prompts:
(Choose from these or make up your own.)

1. HOGWARTS
Are you a teacher or a student? Which house are you in? What subjects do you teach? Next week might be the most important quidditch match of the year and you're the team captain! Maybe you're the potions professor and someone just blew up their cauldron.

2. AURORS
Are you a trainee? The head Auror who has been dueling with dark wizards all your adult life? A dark wizard? Catch you if we can! Or maybe you're an auror breaking curses in a Death Eater safehouse.

3. DIAGON ALLEY
A bustling locale filled to the brim with wizarding shops and taverns. Are you a business owner? Perhaps you're a wand maker or a student buying your books for the next year in Hogwarts. Maybe you just want to get a shot of firewhiskey in the Three Broomsticks.

4. MINISTRY OF MAGIC
Do you work here? You could be in the Department of Mysteries, handling a new case about vanishing cabinets. Or maybe you work in the misuse of muggle artifacts office, dispelling singing teacups or flying cars. Is it a busy day, a slow week, or just another day in the office? Maybe you're one of the gossips who just heard of the newest bit of juicy gossip.

5. THE OLDEST AND PUREST BLOOD
Were you born to a pureblood family? Perhaps you're an heir of great, questionable fortune. Maybe you'd like nothing to do with your family who supports the Dark Lord. What if you fell in love with someone your family doesn't approve of? Or maybe both of your parents are muggle born and this is still all new to you.

6. FLYING
There are great many ways to fly: broomsticks, hippogriffs, dragons. Take your pick and soar through the skies!

7. DUELING/SPELL CASTING
What's the fun in being a wizard if you can't cast spells? Are you good at something specific? Do you use silent spells a lot? Perhaps you're the best dueler with a wand that's been seen for ages. Or maybe you're just starting out, and a spell just backfired in your face.

8. ST. MUNGO'S HOSPITAL FOR MAGICAL MALADIES AND INJURIES
Did your spell go haywire? Did you stick a satsuma up your nostril? It happens. Happily there's a hospital for your needs. Or maybe you work there, healing all those poor and silly wizards who turn up in desperate need of your care.

9. AZKABAN
A fortress island in the middle of the Northern sea, full of the most dangerous dark wizards. Are you a resident, or visiting? Watch out for those dementors!

10. POTIONS
You brewed the best pick-me-up potion but something went wrong? Maybe you ended up purple in the face. Or you gave a love potion to the wrong person. Maybe you mixed your hangover potion with magical viagra? It happens. But now you have to deal with it.

11. MAGICAL CREATURES
Do you work with dragons? Perhaps you have some giant blood in you. Or maybe you were bit by a werewolf and your first full moon is nearing. Maybe you found an injured unicorn. Or your house has become infested with boggarts.

12. WILD CARD
Come up your own scenario.

HOT CAULDRON:
A POTIONS MEME

Potions is a natural tool to nearly any wizard. Children learn from an early age how to brew them, and adults have transformed these useful little concoctions into some brilliant serums and horrible poisons. Some have even created hangover cures, or day to day remedies to fix nearly any ailment one can think of.

Your character just so happens to be handling a potion in some form today. The reason for this potion is up to you, have a look at the scenario and see what catches your fancy.

Open to HP-verse characters and cross-canon alike.

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Post with your character, noting their name/canon in the subject, and any preferences you may have.
2. Roll a number and tag out to others.
3. Profit.

HOW IT HAPPENS
1. POTIONS CLASS
You're at the source of it. Perhaps you were given permission to taste your own cocktail. Perhaps you accidentally inhaled the vapors or someone tricked you into drinking it.

2. PUB/DINNER TABLE
Someone spike your drink? Did a stranger offer you a firewhiskey that tasted a little weird? Or was it a friend who thought you needed a pick-me-up?

3. HOME
You probably have a few potions standing by waiting to be used. Did you mistakenly grab the wrong bottle, going for a hangover cure and ended up with veritaserum instead?

4. DORM/COMMUNITY HOUSING
Gryffindor tower, Malfoy manor, Grimmault's place - a lot of people coming and going, maybe you grab someone's chocolates and they happened to be spiked with love potion, or maybe you accidentally take someone else's goblet and sip their polyjuice potion.

5. RANDOM
Come up with your own scenario and go wild!

POTIONS
A. AMORTENSIA A love potion that does not create actual love, but gives the drinker a powerful obsession and infatuation with the giver of the potion. The longer a love potion awaits consumption, the stronger the effects will be.

B. CONFUSING CONCOCTION Will cause the drinker to become confused, distracted, and sick.

C. DRAUGHT OF PEACE Provides personal comfort, calms anxiety, and soothes agitation.

D. FELIX FELICIS More commonly known as Liquid Luck, grants whoever drinks it unusually good luck. Side effects include giddiness and overzealousness, among other effects that are related to overconfidence.

E. POLYJUICE POTION Allows the drinker to assume the appearance of someone else for an hour or more, depending on the quantity. The potion only causes a physical transformation of the drinker, but clothing and voice is not affected.

F. VERITASERUM is a powerful truth potion. Three drops of this potion are all that is needed to force anyone to respond to any question with the truth.

G. WILD CARD Make up your own potion, or pick a new one and its effects!

Characters: Mingle
Warnings: Gen to mature, smut warning?
Timeline: Fluid, this is an AU post, anything from Hogwarts to distant future
Preferences: AU'd characters. Feel free to use this as a mingle, post your top levels. And if someone out there plays James, I'd love to see you in this post too! Multiple versions of characters welcome and pile-up threads encouraged. So don't be shy to thread jack or start your own things.

WHAT IF JAMES AND LILY HAD LIVED
It's as simple as that. Maybe they picked Remus as their secret keeper after all and managed to mount an attack against Voldemort otherwise. This is just a silly what if scenario, go as wild with it as you like. I'll give some prompt suggestions below but feel free to invent your own, too.

    1. ALL FAMILY FUN - PARTY AT THE POTTERS
Spending together family holidays or Harry's first day in Hogwarts. Maybe James and Lily didn't have time to take him to the train and instead the duty fell onto the godfather, or maybe Remus will help Lily to organize a birthday party, the whole million of Weasley kids are of course invited. What if Harry and Ron knew each other since they were babies? What about life changing things like first girlfriends or oh no, potions teacher who Harry can't stand? Sirius practically lives at the Potters, surely, is he begging treats from the breakfast table or teaching Harry how to cast jellylegs jinx even before he's allowed to use spells on his own?

    2. SERIOUS BUSINESS - THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX
Now, what really happened? Did they change the secret keeper? Was Peter not the traitor after all? Maybe he deserted Voldemort's ranks before taking the dark mark. Maybe they're fighting a long, long war against Voldemort still years later and the kids will grow up to be warriors at childhood. Maybe they are on a run and Voldemort has taken over the wizarding world. Or maybe they managed to defeat him together. Have your own horcrux hunt?

    3. WILD CARD - YOUR SCENARIO

Character: James Potter & You!
Warnings: Gen/TBA
Timeline: Marauders era, Hogwarts/after
Preferences: Timeline appropriate characters. I'm still a little shaky with him, so I'm not going to do any AU. Shipping only with Lily. I'd love to see pile up threads with the Marauders 4, so feel free to thread jack.

1. HOGWARTS
    a) Terrorising the hallways
Studying by the lake or loitering around in the hallways is pretty much the favorite time of James' day. You can find him throwing snowballs at the yard or shouting insults at Slytherins in the hallways. And if you happen to be one Lily Evans, it's dead sure he always has a brilliant smile reserved just for you.

    b) Quidditch pitch
If he's not in classes or being a terror with his friends, he's practicing. You'll find him on a broom souring around the quidditch pitch, chasing an elusive golden ball. Flying is his favorite thing in the world. Come say hi!

    c) Classes
Passing notes, teasing girls or one Severus Snape, James spends a lot of his time in classes just goofing around. Maybe you were unfortunate enough to be paired with him for potions?

    d) Yule ball
Chances are that he's going alone if Lily rejected his invitation (again). You might find him bugging one of his mates or maybe you were dumb enough to say yes when he asked you to dance. He won't stop goofing around on the dance floor either. Just a fair warning.

    e) Detention
What did he do this time? A better question would be what he didn't do? You're going to suffer together, though. Whether you were at fault or not.

    f) Holidays
He spends most of his holidays with his family. But you might catch him at a concert or something like that with his friends. Or spending summers together with the other Marauders, they're always invited to the Potter residence for at least a couple of weeks if not longer.

2. AFTER SCHOOL / THE ORDER OF PHOENIX
    a) The world's best worst dad
Lily might be expecting or Harry is just a little critter. James can be a bit of a mess with responsibilities, though. Not that he doesn't want anything to do with them but he is a little bit clueless at times. Did she throw him out after having a row about letting her sleep? Maybe he's out the first time on his own with Harry. Help him out, will you?

    b) Tying the knot
Marriage is pretty damn scary, isn't it? James is radiant with happiness, though. He's going to make a mess of everything he does out of sheer nervousness. Help him out with his robes!

    c) Late nights on Order business
The headquarters might not be home but it sure seems like that way sometimes. There's still some stuff to be done and James would like nothing more than to be home with his wife and kid. Let's suffer through it together.

Character: Harry Potter & You!
Warnings: Gen in the post, TBA if threads will have more
Timeline: Future AU (I'm not familiar with cursed child) or later years in Hogwarts. In some AU cases I'll be happy to play a child too. I like to play a lot of what-if scenarios, write off deaths, etc. Some suggestions and verse information below.
Preferences: I'm good with anything. Here is my permissions post. I am happy to play with AUs or OCs as long as you don't spring unexpected deep, assumed CR on me. A fellow Gryffindor is good, a girlfriend of many years is not. All canonmates welcome, even the dead ones. We can figure something out! If you don't know how to start off things, give me a holler, I can write a a specific starter for us too.

1. FUTURE IS NEVER SET - Future AU
The war was fought and dust settled. How things went from there is anyone's guess. These are a few of my favorite themes to play with.
    a) Auror life is hard
Harry bypassed the last year of school and was accepted to Auror office perhaps a little too quickly. Maybe your character is training him or with him for the job. Long nights, long weekends on the job, disagreements with the ministry policies, flushing out corruption in the old guard. Harry can be quite unforgiving when it comes to doing the right thing. But his methods also are questionable at best. The end justifies the means when Harry is concerned. He isn't going to sit into the ministry system easily at all.

    b) Teaching at Hogwarts
Maybe that Auror work wasn't meant for him after all. Haunted by nightmares and war memories he was a menace in the Auror force. So, he decided to take on the last lingering effect of Tom Riddle's life and turn the tide on the one-year-long career path of DADA teachers. Are you his fellow teacher or a student in his class?

    c) Muggle life for you
When the wizarding community is too much, fame and pressure turn his world upside down, Harry decides to just take off and move to a muggle city where he's not recognized as the boy who lived or the chosen one but just a bloke who doesn't really have any good work experience or school papers or much of anything of the sort. Maybe you'll find him waiting tables in a local bar?

    d) Wild card?
Do you have some different ideas?

2. WHAT IF LIFE WASN'T LIKE THAT AT ALL - AU scenarios
What if your character didn't die? What if Harry wasn't the chosen one? What if Harry didn't kill the piece of Voldemort inside him but became the next Dark Lord? Followed by some of my favorite themes of this variety.
    a) What if [character] hadn't died?
Maybe Sirius and Remus managed to capture Wormtail after all and Sirius was cleared of his crimes and Harry came to actually live with him. Wormtail didn't raise Voldemort from death but instead Harry was raised by Sirius and Remus from there on and...? Maybe Cedric didn't die during the triwizard tournament and maybe instead of Harry, he became the pivotal point of resistance against the Dark Lord. Or another scenario that happens to be fitting for your character.

    b) What if we were a family?
Maybe instead of the Dursleys, Dumbledore took Harry to someone else. Maybe he was raised by Sirius and Remus in remote cottage and knew love like any other happy kid. Maybe he was raised by Snape on a run. Maybe he was adopted by a Death Eater and brought up to be the next Dark Lord, maybe he grew up as your character's adopted brother.

    c) Wild card?
    Your what-if thoughts and scenarios.

3. MISSING SCENES - canonical moments
Those moments in canon that you would have liked to elaborate on. Invented or just looking them in more depth.
    a) On the run
Any interaction between the trio or characters involved during the time when they were trying to find the horcruxes.

    b) Recollections of war
Discussions about the war, working through some issues maybe. I'm sure everyone has some problems and lingering regrets. Maybe lingering effects of being at the receiving end of crusiatus or imperio.

    c) Wild card?
Scenes that you'd like to touch upon?

    9. AZKABAN

    RULES

    1. DON'T BE AN ARSE
Be nice to each other. IC =/= OOC. Try to be polite even if you disagree with someone. Respect different interpretations of characters, be sensitive about possible triggering subjects, and don't harass other players.

If there is an issue with harassment, please contact a mod.

    2. HARRY IS A WIZARD, BUT NOT THE ONLY MAGICAL ONE
Don't god-mod or info-mod. It's pretty simple. Leave some room for others to be amazing, too.

    3. THIS AIN'T HOGWARTS
We're not implementing a game wide plot, or expect anyone to follow one. You can, of course, carry over CR from one post to another. Basically, just mark your posts well and good so everyone understands what kind of AU or verse you're playing. We're not banning anything--all we ask is that you make sure anything that isn't appropriate for children goes under a cut and with proper warnings labels.

    4. DEMENTORS ARE WATCHING
If you really need to be an arse, we will ban you. It's that simple.

    5. NO MUGGLES ALLOWED
You want to keep your OOC communication in the introduction post or in some other place than this community. The posts in here are for RP purposes and IC interactions.

    6. HAVE SOME POSTING GUIDELINES:
Remember to apply appropriate warnings, and be mindful of possible triggers. Please use the form below for your own posts in the comm; it makes it easier for everyone to know what is okay in your post and what is not.

Anyone can post a meme in the comm. Go for it! Just remember to cut PG/mature content.
