Owl Post meme, a bit late, sorry sorry.

OWL MAIL

Wizards might not text with a mobile phone all that often, but they do have other methods of communication available when it comes to a quick chat with their mates (or enemies) at any hour of the day.

Post your characters, name, and preferences in the title area. You can include a generic starter if you want, or just post a blank. Anything goes.

1. OWL MAIL
This might be a little slow for quicker chats, especially if you're close by, but it's good to give the bird some exercise!

2. FIRE CALL
Just pop your head into that fire and chat away. Probably not recommended for drunken calls.

3. ENCHANTED MIRROR
Those little reflective surfaces that show your friend's face whenever you might need to tell them something. Maybe you can enchant them to connect to any reflective surface around your chosen contact? (Maybe not the bathroom...)

4. HOWLERS
Ever received one? It's supposed to be absolutely horrible.

5. OTHER MAGICAL COMMUNICATION
The ones above are hardly the only way wizards can reach out to each other for a quick chat. Feel free to invent new items or use something like enchanted notebooks that you write in and the other sees the text at their end. You could also use flying letters, talking portraits, or, well, cellphones, if you will.

[Given his father's protections, Regulus has no qualms casting the same wards on his parchment. He can speak more freely now.]

Father,

I have nothing but respect for the Malfoy name, of course, and so it dismays me to say I believe she could have found a better. Lucius Malfoy is somewhat distressingly occupied with wealth, to the point that it lends his status a rather unsteady air. This is, of course, only on brief observation and I share this only out of concern for my cousin's future status. But she does seem happy enough with him.

I don't wish to overstay my welcome and will take my cues from my hosts, but Malfoy Manor may well become a destination for a dozen or so guests at a time. Certainly there are still many here now, if there is anyone you had hoped particularly I might speak to.

In answer to your last question, regrettably not yet, but I blame myself for spending the majority of the evening in conversation with the hosts rather than circulating. If the opportunity arises, I'm certain Narcissa would be happy to arrange introductions.

Your obedient son,
Regulus Arcturus Black

Regulus,

I regret to hear that about the Malfoy boy. But I'm glad to hear you recognise the lack in his character and will aspire to have less of those same characteristics. It is a sensible match for her. Perhaps you should encourage your cousin to act as a stabilising force in their marriage. The Malfoys are a good pureblood family even if their current heir leaves something to be desired.

If you have the opportunity, and perhaps inclination, you should look into creating as many connections as you can. Even below your own status. Sometimes talent is more desirable than family name. With reason, however, as you might understand. I doubt that the Malfoys associate with rubble or blood traitors but keep your eyes open.

It might not be quite the time for you to settle down just yet but it doesn't hurt to look around. If she would be agreeable, you should take the opportunity to have her introduce you to the Greengrasses at least. I will make necessary inquiries if someone happens to catch your eye.

Sincerely, your father,
Orion Black

[ About those wards, they will happen again. Let's have a private discussion, like only is proper. ]

Father,

As you advised, I waited for an appropriate moment to offer my advice. I had feared Narcissa would be angry with me, but she seemed grateful for it, especially when I mentioned the suggestion had originally come from you. Lucius is not unpleasant company, and I have little doubt Narcissa will manage him with her usual poise.

Our conversation extended to introductions, and I have made the acquaintance of the Greengrasses as you suggested. I found them quiet but charming, and in truth, somewhat restful. Cousin Bellatrix and her new husband Rodolphus have arrived, as well as Rodolphus' cousin Rabastan. The three of them appeared unannounced, much to the surprise of everyone present, and I think 'strong-willed' does not do them justice.

Your skeptical son,
