Hogwarts: A Jamjar Meme
![]() HOGWARTS: A JAMJAR MEME Wizards of all ages and from all times: whatever you were doing, wherever you were - none of that matters now. You've been brought to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. You’ll find yourself in the Great Hall under a starry sky, illuminated by the light of a thousand candles. What happened? Why were you brought here? How were you brought here? All questions to be answered, perhaps. But first, mingle with your kind and find a seat for yourself. This will be your home for a while. Because there is no leaving. Student, staff, you with nothing to do - all of you trapped inside the school grounds. Sorting to houses & Start-of-term feast Those of you who have not been sorted into your houses, you're guided to sit on a stool while an old hat will contemplate a proper house for you. After, you can join your housemates at their long table. The ghost of the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, will soon give a speech once the last student is sorted... "The very best of evenings to you! Now… to our new students, welcome. To our old students, welcome back! Another year full of magical education awaits you…" He will warn you about the anti-curse charm set upon Hogwarts and how it will bring harm in equal measures to yourself. He will urge you to stay calm and have a lemondrop; they’ll be provided at all tables. Dumbledore would like you all to note few things, Hogwarts attendees: 1. This will be a continuous, no commitment necessary “storyline.” What does that mean? Depending on the level of interest, there will be at least one post per month on the 3B-DR that will continue the storyline which begins here. Players are encouraged to make top-levels in the dressing room if they want to keep this verse going with their characters. Madame Rosmerta’s made a tag specifically for this. 2. Multiple versions of characters at various ages are welcome. Whether that means there’s three Harry’s all in fifth year, or one Harry in first year, a second in third year, and a third in sixth year is up to you. All three Harry’s could also interact, depending on player preferences. AU versions of (HP)canon and non-(HP)canon characters are also welcome. Sometimes people disappear from Hogwarts and sometimes they come back. 3. Schoolwork Dumbledore's ghost will invite all characters of age and knowledge to teach their specialties to the younger wizards. If your character could be possibly a teacher, or is interested in teaching, refer to this thread to sign up for a teaching position. The courses do not need to be anything serious (unless you want them to be). If your character would be interested in a course, you can look it up from the character's toplevel. Your character doesn't need to be of student age to participate in courses. (They're free for all!) 4. Sign up for your house. Here is a thread for all the Hogwarts houses that your character could be sorted in. 5. This means… war! Are you a Death Eater? A member of the Order? Rival students? It’s likely your character will encounter someone they don’t get along with. Duels are fine, but beware that any attacks meant to cause harm (curses) will backfire on the caster. If your character doesn’t care that damage will also bounce back to them, then Dumbledore’s ghost will be intervening. He won’t tolerate harm to any of his students… even if it’s harm to Tom. 6. Housecup Of course points will be awarded and taken away by teachers and prefects. You can leave a comment in this thread for the points taken or given. Madam Rosmerta will add them up together for the next post. You can also sign up for a prefect role. Each house has one and that one will change in each post. First come, first serve is the rule, except if your character was a prefect in the last post, you can't sign up in this one.
Name in the title line. Do not leave an empty toplevel. Write a starter like you would to a game event. Link to preferences if you’d prefer. 2. Tag other characters The name of the game is interaction. Why is your character here? Do they want to be here? Are they being reunited with lost loved ones? 3. Have fun! Dumbledore (and Madame Rosmerta) is watching. Behave yourselves. Don’t godmod, infomod, respect other players, etc. |

Then he was in the Great Hall, the ghost of Albus Dumbledore starting the Sorting, and the entire situation was just so surreal, he thinks he may very well have died, and this strange fever dream is where he was sent.
He sits at the staff table at first, looking over the crowd for familiar faces. One catches his eye and at first he thinks it's Harry, but--
It's not, and he's up, his feet carrying him over to the man.
"James." Merlin, he's so young. It hits him for the millionth time how horribly young he and Lily had died. Would he even recognize Remus, as aged as he is?
no subject
He freezes at first, staring at his hands on the table. He believed so firmly in the notion that Remus was the traitor that he placed the whole defence strategy on that idea. James would never turn on his mates if he weren't very certain and now he's dead, his wife is dead and possibly their little baby boy.
He glances at Remus from the corner of his eye, a world of hurt painted there. When he stands up, it happens fluidly, a wand slipping into his hand. His jaw tightens as he turns to Remus, facing him.
"Help me out here. I don't think I understand even half of it."
no subject
"I don't understand why we're here any more than you do, but I may be able to explain other things." He can understand James' fury far better now than he would have a scarce year ago, now that he has a wife and baby of his own and no idea what's happened to the former or what will become of the latter. "It was Peter, James. They changed Secret Keeper at the last moment, I didn't even know for-- a very long time, I thought it had been Sirius. But Harry lives." The most essential things first, hopefully enough to be convincing. Remus smiles faintly. "He's grown into an incredible young man. You would be very proud."
no subject
"I know we--" he quiets, suspicious and tentatively horror struck by the implications of what Remus is suggesting. They did change Sirius and Peter as Secret Keepers. But they didn't tell anyone. Not even Dumbledore. Only Sirius and Peter would have known about that.
He wants to believe Remus still. He wants to. But at the same time that would mean that Peter...
It makes sense though - and how horrible it is that it does? - because Peter had been the secret keeper.
"Harry's a live?" he asks finally, breath rattling into his lungs and a hand coming to cover his mouth because the relief is a giant and it's leaning on him. "How... How did he ...? Merlin." Because nothing matters to him as much as that little boy.
no subject
"I was unable to be there for him as well and as soon as I should have been. For that, I am truly sorry. So much has happened since that night, James, I don't even know where to begin, but I'll answer whatever questions you have."
no subject
His son is alive. That little moon faced boy with a few teeth and a laugh that will make grown men cry. (At least it makes James cry.)
He might never see his son again, but the boy is alive.
That's enough to quiet him completely.

He shakes his head, his whole body trembling with the sobs that he's trying to swallow because how could he? How could he fail his little boy like that?
And yet, Harry lives. He lives and that's better than any news he's heard ever since Lily whispered into his ear that she's with a child.
He's leaning towards Remus unconsciously. Towards his warmth and his understanding. It's that little piece of wood in an open sea where he's drowning.
no subject
His own fears and grief over leaving his son without a father are swallowed back, left unvoiced.
no subject
"I... I thought, I would have... " Never. If only he hadn't been so convinced.
The wrong man, he had trusted the wrong man.
"And now she's dead because of it."
He will calm down eventually and he will have more presence of mind to actually ask Remus all the right questions, draw out the last detail out of him. And then they will have each other to lean on. But right in this moment he just doesn't know how to live with himself.
So instead he leans on Remus and lets Remus decide how to move on from there.

Remus guides them to sitting, even if it's on the floor, because his joints are always a wreck and his knees are starting to hurt but he doesn't want to pull away. Not when James needs him like this. "He had us all fooled. Peter pulled quite the trick, faking his own death to frame Sirius for what he'd done. It certainly fooled me for-- a very long time."
He'd been drowning in grief, desperate for answers, and it had seemed like irrefutable proof. Broad daylight, several witnesses, the way Sirius was acting... by now, he knew it had been his own manifestation of grief, but at the time, he'd convinced himself it was proof of not only his guilt but that he'd had no remorse. He still wonders if he couldn't have saved Sirius the years of suffering in Azkaban if he'd only thought to question things further. He has much to regret from that time.

"Peter suspected, Sirius... And you were so..." James sighs, then reaches behind Remus as they sit down, wrapping an arm around him. Remus might be decades older than him but he'll never stop being that skinny shy boy in too wide robes for James. He hugs him close.
"I'm sorry, Moony. I'm so sorry."
Peter had played them like fiddles. All of them. James doesn't doubt for a moment that he had said something to Remus that just inflated the issues they had. He probably drove the wedge as deep as he could.
"What happened to Sirius?"
no subject
The ache of losing Sirius again is still fresh enough to make him wince. “As I said, Peter framed him... not just for betraying us all, but for his own faked death and the actual deaths of a dozen Muggles in the vicinity. The Ministry was desperate to save face and put away Death Eaters as quickly as possible. His trial was a complete farce, and he was sent to Azkaban.” Remus is silent a moment, the guilt from not only allowing that to happen but believing he’d deserved nothing less overwhelming him temporarily. “He was there for twelve years before he managed to escape. For twelve years, I was convinced he deserved every second of being locked in that nightmare.”
no subject
"Azkaban..." he shakes his head, sighing. He can see it, Sirius in a trial, mad with grief and throwing the worst kind of attitude there is to the Wizengamot. "He probably didn't make it hard for them to throw him away." James knows his best friend.
Then he turns to look at Remus, quiet eyes studying him. "What about you?" Before, they had supported Remus financially because it was hard for him to keep a job. But what happened when they were all gone? Nothing good, James assumes. This bleak future just seems like the kind that didn't promise anything good for any of them.
