A JAMJAR MEME

Wizards of all ages and from all times: whatever you were doing, wherever you were - none of that matters now. You've been brought to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. You’ll find yourself in the Great Hall under a starry sky, illuminated by the light of a thousand candles.

What happened? Why were you brought here? How were you brought here? All questions to be answered, perhaps. But first, mingle with your kind and find a seat for yourself. This will be your home for a while.

Because there is no leaving. Student, staff, you with nothing to do - all of you trapped inside the school grounds.

Sorting to houses & Start-of-term feast
Those of you who have not been sorted into your houses, you're guided to sit on a stool while an old hat will contemplate a proper house for you. After, you can join your housemates at their long table.

The ghost of the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, will soon give a speech once the last student is sorted...

"The very best of evenings to you! Now… to our new students, welcome. To our old students, welcome back! Another year full of magical education awaits you…"

He will warn you about the anti-curse charm set upon Hogwarts and how it will bring harm in equal measures to yourself. He will urge you to stay calm and have a lemondrop; they’ll be provided at all tables.

Dumbledore would like you all to note few things, Hogwarts attendees:

1. This will be a continuous, no commitment necessary “storyline.”
What does that mean? Depending on the level of interest, there will be at least one post per month on the 3B-DR that will continue the storyline which begins here. Players are encouraged to make top-levels in the dressing room if they want to keep this verse going with their characters. Madame Rosmerta’s made a tag specifically for this.

2. Multiple versions of characters at various ages are welcome.
Whether that means there’s three Harry’s all in fifth year, or one Harry in first year, a second in third year, and a third in sixth year is up to you. All three Harry’s could also interact, depending on player preferences. AU versions of (HP)canon and non-(HP)canon characters are also welcome. Sometimes people disappear from Hogwarts and sometimes they come back.

3. Schoolwork
Dumbledore's ghost will invite all characters of age and knowledge to teach their specialties to the younger wizards. If your character could be possibly a teacher, or is interested in teaching, refer to this thread to sign up for a teaching position. The courses do not need to be anything serious (unless you want them to be). If your character would be interested in a course, you can look it up from the character's toplevel. Your character doesn't need to be of student age to participate in courses. (They're free for all!)

4. Sign up for your house.
Here is a thread for all the Hogwarts houses that your character could be sorted in.

5. This means… war!
Are you a Death Eater? A member of the Order? Rival students? It’s likely your character will encounter someone they don’t get along with. Duels are fine, but beware that any attacks meant to cause harm (curses) will backfire on the caster. If your character doesn’t care that damage will also bounce back to them, then Dumbledore’s ghost will be intervening. He won’t tolerate harm to any of his students… even if it’s harm to Tom.

6. Housecup
Of course points will be awarded and taken away by teachers and prefects. You can leave a comment in this thread for the points taken or given. Madam Rosmerta will add them up together for the next post. You can also sign up for a prefect role. Each house has one and that one will change in each post. First come, first serve is the rule, except if your character was a prefect in the last post, you can't sign up in this one.

[Of course that gets his attention and he quickly goes to meet Harry partway.]

Harry! Thank god, tell me, what is the date for you?

[He needs to know how the battle went, if his wife makes it, if his son will have a safe world to grow up in.]

[ Harry throws himself into a hug without even thinking about it, squeezing tightly. ]

It's two thousand for me, Remus. Two years since the war. Are you...? [ He doesn't finish, but pushes some space between them, looking into Remus' eyes. He doesn't want to be the bearer of bad news. ]

[Hugs are fine, hugs are good.]

A new millennium! I hope it's a sight better than the one before. May second, nineteen-ninety-eight. [He already has some idea what the news will be, and the resignation to it is in his eyes.] I was facing against Dolohov and very suddenly found myself here. Dora-- [His wife--] Does she-- [Is she still alive?] We were split up.

[ The news are right there in Harry's eyes. He never knew how to lie like that. His face twists, and eyes well up and he brings one of his hands back to rub over his mouth. ]

I'm so sorry, Remus. I wish I had better news for you. You both... Both you and Tonks... [ He blows out a breath in a rush, looking down at their feet because he can't keep the tears back and he wishes he could. ]

Teddy is two now, [ he says with a smile through through his tears as he looks up, sniffing. ] He's wonderful, Remus. Your son. New hair every day.

[He hadn't held onto much hope that he would survive but he'd thought Dora would have a chance. He'd wished-- but he knew this was a possibility too. His head lowers grimly for a moment.

Hearing about Teddy is a balm to his soul. The mere mention of him makes him smile.] I knew we'd made the right choice, asking you to be god-father. Two... that's plenty old enough for personality to show. What's he like?

[What was his first word how old was he when he took his first steps are there any symptoms he inherited they hadn't known about yet what's his favorite toy what's his favorite food does he go to sleep easily or is it a challenge to get him to settle down

[ Harry couldn't help the tears that were falling from his eyes, but he kept smiling still, because he had good news to tell as well, didn't he? ]

He is wonderful, Remus. I will tell you all about him. I have been helping Andromeda to take care of him. I imagine that he could live with me once we get everything settled. [ He and Ginny don't exactly have the most stable relationship currently. ]

But Remus, we defeated Voldemort. He's gone. All of him, even the piece that lived inside me.

[It's alright, he's a bit teary too. Still smiling.]

I can't wait to hear it, thank you.

[It's a relief to hear that, that at last Harry would know peace, that Teddy had a safe world to grow up in.] So it's truly over, then. Good. [They'd wanted it to end before Harry would ever need to fight, but they'd failed so miserably at that. Let this be enough.] And it's safe? I imagine you've been rounding up the last of his followers for a while.

[ Harry reaches over to clasp Remus' arm and squeeze it tightly. ] He's a clever little boy. Makes his grandma and me proud every day.

[ He has to shake his head then, just a little tiredly. ] It's never truly safe as long as there's hatred in the wizarding community and that's not going to end just because Voldemort is no longer.

But he is gone now. [ It's hard to remember who knows and how much about the Horcruxes and that's not really relevant here. Remus doesn't need to know all the things Harry needed to do to bring about what they wanted. ] And I hope the ministry is on a way towards better.

I knew he would be. He’ll be trouble when he learns how to control his appearance better, I’m sure.

[He studies Harry’s expression carefully. While it’s true that a war does not simply end after the decisive battle is finished and one side officially concedes, there comes a time when you must stop living as though you’re still in the thick of it. Does Harry even know how?] Trying to end all hatred is a noble battle, Harry, but unfortunately one that has no end. Luckily there are many ways to fight it and some of the most effective methods do not involve traditional “fighting” at all.

[With a gentle hand on Harry’s shoulder, he guides him to sit. What Harry’s had to do doesn’t concern him as much as what he’s currently doing. There’s nothing to be done about the former, and plenty to discuss with the latter.] I do not envy anyone the task of bettering the ministry. How is that going?

[ That brings a grin out of Harry, too. Because definitely, Teddy will be trouble when he figures out just how much he can do with his ability. ] I hope he won't cause too many heart attacks.

[ He lets Remus guide him to a table and takes a seat, smiling to him warmly. It's so good to see him again. ] I know, I know, Ginny keeps saying the same thing. I can't fight everyone else's battles for them. [ It's a difficult thing to do, though, let go of that mentality. If Harry would be any better at looking at himself from the mirror he'd also know that he's associating affection and love with how much he does for others. He had none before Hogwarts and during Hogwarts period, he was constantly putting his tail in fire for other people, even dying for them. ]

Shacklebolt is the minister now. He's doing well, I think. But there's a lot of corruption to wrangle.

Andromeda is experienced with raising a metamorphmagus child, at least. I'm sure she'll have it handled.

[He can't really keep a smile away either. It's enough that Teddy has family to care for him, even if not his parents. He'll know he's loved. That's what matters.] She's a smart young woman, you'd do well to listen to her. [He lofts his eyebrows pointedly.] I know how difficult it can be to put down the metaphorical sword, Harry, but you must try to. [For his own sake, as well as for everyone who loves him.]

If anyone can handle turning the Ministry into something decent and reasonable, it's Kingsley. Far better cry than the past few ministers.

Yeah, she's great. And I guess we'll all try to make his life happy. I promise.

[ He gives a nod to what Remus is saying, but it's not very convinced one. He's not going to run headfirst into fire now that people depend on him, but he's very bad at just staying on the side lines. ]

Yeah. I guess so. At least as long as nothing really bad happens. [ He gives Remus a pleading look, because he can't just can't if something horrible is afoot to step away from it. ]

I agree. He's doing fine. There's a lot to fix, though.
