Hogwarts: A Jamjar Meme

HOGWARTS:
A JAMJAR MEME

Wizards of all ages and from all times: whatever you were doing, wherever you were - none of that matters now. You've been brought to Hogwarts, school of witchcraft and wizardry. You’ll find yourself in the Great Hall under a starry sky, illuminated by the light of a thousand candles.

What happened? Why were you brought here? How were you brought here? All questions to be answered, perhaps. But first, mingle with your kind and find a seat for yourself. This will be your home for a while.

Because there is no leaving. Student, staff, you with nothing to do - all of you trapped inside the school grounds.

Sorting to houses & Start-of-term feast
Those of you who have not been sorted into your houses, you're guided to sit on a stool while an old hat will contemplate a proper house for you. After, you can join your housemates at their long table.

The ghost of the headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, will soon give a speech once the last student is sorted...

"The very best of evenings to you! Now… to our new students, welcome. To our old students, welcome back! Another year full of magical education awaits you…"

He will warn you about the anti-curse charm set upon Hogwarts and how it will bring harm in equal measures to yourself. He will urge you to stay calm and have a lemondrop; they’ll be provided at all tables.

Dumbledore would like you all to note few things, Hogwarts attendees:

1. This will be a continuous, no commitment necessary “storyline.”
What does that mean? Depending on the level of interest, there will be at least one post per month on the 3B-DR that will continue the storyline which begins here. Players are encouraged to make top-levels in the dressing room if they want to keep this verse going with their characters. Madame Rosmerta’s made a tag specifically for this.

2. Multiple versions of characters at various ages are welcome.
Whether that means there’s three Harry’s all in fifth year, or one Harry in first year, a second in third year, and a third in sixth year is up to you. All three Harry’s could also interact, depending on player preferences. AU versions of (HP)canon and non-(HP)canon characters are also welcome. Sometimes people disappear from Hogwarts and sometimes they come back.

3. Schoolwork
Dumbledore's ghost will invite all characters of age and knowledge to teach their specialties to the younger wizards. If your character could be possibly a teacher, or is interested in teaching, refer to this thread to sign up for a teaching position. The courses do not need to be anything serious (unless you want them to be). If your character would be interested in a course, you can look it up from the character's toplevel. Your character doesn't need to be of student age to participate in courses. (They're free for all!)

4. Sign up for your house.
Here is a thread for all the Hogwarts houses that your character could be sorted in.

5. This means… war!
Are you a Death Eater? A member of the Order? Rival students? It’s likely your character will encounter someone they don’t get along with. Duels are fine, but beware that any attacks meant to cause harm (curses) will backfire on the caster. If your character doesn’t care that damage will also bounce back to them, then Dumbledore’s ghost will be intervening. He won’t tolerate harm to any of his students… even if it’s harm to Tom.

6. Housecup
Of course points will be awarded and taken away by teachers and prefects. You can leave a comment in this thread for the points taken or given. Madam Rosmerta will add them up together for the next post. You can also sign up for a prefect role. Each house has one and that one will change in each post. First come, first serve is the rule, except if your character was a prefect in the last post, you can't sign up in this one.

    1. Toplevel with your character
Name in the title line. Do not leave an empty toplevel. Write a starter like you would to a game event. Link to preferences if you’d prefer.

    2. Tag other characters
The name of the game is interaction. Why is your character here? Do they want to be here? Are they being reunited with lost loved ones?

    3. Have fun!
Dumbledore (and Madame Rosmerta) is watching. Behave yourselves. Don’t godmod, infomod, respect other players, etc.

Bella stares at him, hand lifting so that she may tap her pursed lips with the tip of one finger. A matrilineal bloodline. So his father is a disgrace to wizards, is that it? Or something more scandalous, perhaps? Interesting. Why, she's just about to inquire further when he continues on.

Rodolphus. "That slime sat with me just hours ago!" Congratulations, Severus, you've just guaranteed the poor idiot's life will now become nothing but misery by her hand.

Yes, her focus on what he says about his parents shifts that quickly, her interest waning as it's clear this is one avenue which will fail to yield her immediate results. For what? It's always good to sniff out a person's weakness so as to find the best place to stab them with a knife.

That he just so happened to find hers is inconsequential. Her indignation more than makes up for that momentary drop in her guard, and what indignation can't fix, her huff of laughter surely must. Twice in one night. Unheard of. "What authority is this?"

With a scowl--she shouldn't be amused right now!--she looks away and into the fire. "We'll need to kill him. The treacherous rat."

Maybe his father was just boring.

(Maybe his father was Severus' first real cache of human material with which to use as potion experiment fodder, maybe he murdered him with his bare hands.)

"Mine." This is what Rabastan gets for always nagging at him to go to bakeries at ludicrous hours. So Severus hasn't actually caught him with a donut around his junk-- he's lied about more grave matters. "Kill him over wanking to a croissant? That's rather extreme."

Oh did you mean- your future husband- no oh well, Severus is going with this one to see if he can make her crack a smile.

(Come now, you'll make her heart go aflutter with such talk.)

It's a wonder Bella doesn't get whiplash from how quickly her head jerks. There's something almost girlish in the way her eyes twinkle in that brief moment. Something must be wrong. Her face must be about to shatter with the way she's fighting back this blasted amusement. He can't truly be this daft? Remarkably, she manages to wrestle a neutral expression and maintains some semblance of control over herself. "Those croissants never asked for such indignities."

Yes, she most certainly did mean that wretched man who-will-not-be-her-future-husband. Not if she has anything to say about it!
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (for something new)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-02-18 07:38 am (UTC)(link)
Hah. Got you.

The look in Severus' black eyes is one of plain amusement at having gotten her control to wrinkle - and with such an absurdly stupid remark - but that's all for now, apparently. Pushing it would make it lose value.

He smooths an invisible wrinkle down the front of his robes. "Yes, well. Such is the way of things." Just wait, she'll never be able to look at a croissant the same way again.

"Is there someone else you fancy marrying instead, then?"
peremare: younger (pic#11060658)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-02-18 08:09 pm (UTC)(link)
The look he receives in return is a sour one, as if she'd just sucked on a particularly pungent lemon.

"No," she snaps, voice akin to the crack of a whip. "I don't know what impression you have of me, but I am not the marrying type. I've no inclination to settle with an idiot. Nor do I intend to become fattened with his spawn." Clearly he's thinking of her sisters.

With a scowl, she drags her hands down the front of her uniform, as if to wipe herself clean of these things.

"So we have that in common. You'll help me with this, seeing as you're the bearer of such wretched news. It's only right." Her, talking about things being right or wrong. Hah. Speaking of right-- "Though--I do wonder why you're a professor if we share the same social... circle."
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (stood in the face)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-02-19 07:01 am (UTC)(link)
"Help you with killing Rodolphus?" almost a laugh - but soft, not incredulous. "No, Bellatrix. I'm afraid you'll have to get marriage counseling or refuse to show up for the license signing."

In a way, he's sympathetic. Severus sees things like sexism and racism as muggle constructs (because you can hate people based on their blood purity, but that has no bearing on gender or skin color, he certainly has better things to do than worry who's buggering what), and yet the elite of the wizarding world trade their daughters like chess pieces. Why they go along with it remains a mystery for him.

"It was asked of me."
peremare: younger (pic#11026130)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-02-20 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Abruptly, her expression grows shuttered. He thinks to make light of it, does he? Thinks he can poke fun at this news? Straightening, back stiff, shoulders drawn back. He may be taller than her, older than her (now), but she is a Black. He should be tripping over himself to aid her in this task.

"That was not a question," she murmurs too softly, "You were not given the option to deny me."

Deny her? Does not compute in Bellatrix brain.

"What do you teach, then?"
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (my mood's as black as rain)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-02-20 09:40 am (UTC)(link)
"You'll find I do an awful lot of denying."

What a frustrating arsehole, Severus is. Enough of a child prodigy in the dark arts to not only be accepted into the Slytherin elite, but to end up favored by the Dark Lord himself. He always did as he was ordered - but only what he wanted, outside of that. (Seriously, Voldemort never ended up so much as noticing it was Severus's request to spare Lily that got him killed the first time, just imagine the kind of shit he got away with.)

"Potions. And I'm head of Slytherin house."
peremare: older (pic#11001451)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-02-23 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
"Unacceptable." She tilts her chin up, stubborn. "You can't just say no!" Her voice rises at the end of that sentence, a glimpse of temper flashing--not nearly as volatile as it will be, she hasn't faced her losses yet within the family, hasn't met the man who will send her spiraling toward a mental decline--but it's there. A promise of things to come very soon.

He is a frustrating arsehole. A potions professor, and he won't aid her! Bella spins away from him, storming off a few steps before she's surging back up to him, pressing close, in his face.

"You're no head of my house. You're a coward."

...If intimidation doesn't work, perhaps insults will.
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (at the point of your rifle)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-02-23 04:34 am (UTC)(link)
The c-word is definitely not Severus's favorite, but in this instance, it fails to rile him. Mainly because he's used to Bellatrix.

Very quietly - since she's so close - he asks: "What exactly am I afraid of?" He raises his eyebrows, watches her and the sparks of madness lurking there. "As I'm not afraid of you, are you suggesting the likes of the Lestrange boys pose more of a threat? Perhaps their aging parents? What's so very scary you need my help with?"

Severus is playing with his life here and here knows it but #yolo
peremare: younger (pic#11026113)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-02-23 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
"You should be afraid of me." Her name alone should instill fear into his very soul! He should piss his pants after gazing upon her! And now behold as she behaves far too dramatically over not getting her way.

It's not that she's scared of any of it--it's that he would deny her of her request. To be denied, it's unthinkable. Unheard of. The smarmy git.

The curse hovers on the tip of her tongue, one exhale away from being spoken. The urge, it hits her strong and hard, makes her shudder under the intensity of it. In all her years of living, all seventeen of them, she's never once wanted to make someone suffer the way she wants him to, now.

It comes as a surprise when Cissy's voice echoes in her mind about age and wisdom. Cissy. The rage dissipates, her eyes widening just slightly. Of course!

"I don't need your help." She smiles. What a foolish thing she is, to so quickly forget. "Mediocrity. That's all you'll offer me."
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (for something new)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-02-23 06:26 am (UTC)(link)
There it is. Practically crackling off her like electricity, the desire to do something awful to him. She's so good at it, too, living and breathing dark magic. It's an absolute waste to have this woman as anyone's wife or sycophant; she's mad and she's dangerous but just imagine what she could do if left to her own devices. That is what's beautiful.

(There are a lot of things wrong with Severus Snape.)

He smiles. It's unpleasant.

"You seem very interested in finding out, either way." Is he mediocre?
peremare: younger (pic#11026155)

gosh, he needs to get on that keeping her independent thing

[personal profile] peremare 2017-02-23 11:54 am (UTC)(link)
Something awful would have come, if they weren't in such a public space with others around. Foolish she may be sometimes, but not foolish enough to use the sorts of curses her mother's used on her at home. If they were alone... if they were alone, he would kneel for his audacity, speaking to her in such a way!

"Perhaps I want to learn more about this man able to integrate himself into my social circle." She turns from him, gaze skimming the common room. Her expression darkens when she catches sight of Rodolphus--that rat. No sign of Cissy, alas. Neither version of her sister is in here.

With a sigh, she turns back to Severus. Grey eyes look him over from head to toe. "One who refers to me so familiarly."
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (stood in the face)

it would be v interesting :}

[personal profile] darkart 2017-02-25 06:03 am (UTC)(link)
A young Rodolphus is curious, but not as interesting, as a young Bellatrix. (Sorry bro.)

"It's a habit," he admits. "You're nine years older than I am, and we were introduced when I was twelve. Formalities weren't so strictly enforced, at first."

At first. So he's willfully being a shithead just to rile her up here, yes. Maybe they screwed around maybe they didn't wHO KNOWS.

"Why do you think you'd get married if you didn't want to?" Severus has always wondered.
peremare: interim (pic#11032167)

plot twist! just imagine the possibilities x)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-03-01 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
"I sincerely doubt that," she says with a sneer. "A little babe and I didn't command respect?" Unthinkable. Family is one thing. Her blood is blood, whether it be her sisters or her cousins; she's played her role in encouraging Sirius' rowdiness, for example. It speaks so well to her own, after all, despite him being a child.

She should stomp on Severus for the mere principle of this assumed familiarity alone.

"Why should I believe you?" The look she gives him is a sour one, her temper flaring yet again. Suddenly she's moving, making her way toward the exit of the common room, expecting him to follow. "You who are nothing more than a complete stranger to me?"
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (the trees in the courtyard)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-03-02 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
"You thought I was funny."

Probably. She must have thought the situation was funny, anyway, because tales of Bellatrix being tolerant of ickle Severus made 'blood traitor' Sirius hit the roof. And, he doesn't say, Narcissa liked him. That helped. But hiding behind her sister's skirts won't get him anywhere in this conversation.

"Who says I need you to believe me?"

Severus just looks at her.
peremare: younger (pic#11026113)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-03-02 07:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Are you positive I was laughing with you, and not at you?" Her sense of humor must have grown warped. A consequence of this supposed marriage, no doubt.

(She'll conveniently ignore her amusement from earlier, thank you.)

"I do," she says, turning to look at him. "In fact, I think you want it desperately."

Does she? No. Likely he cares very little whether she does or not, but she needs to find something. Something to latch on to and use as leverage. There's always a topic that will make a person lose their composure, and he clearly knows ways to make her lose hers. Far too many times in such a short period.
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (what's the use of flooding)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-03-04 01:43 am (UTC)(link)
"No one's positive about anything, when it comes to you."

--Compliment, or?? Could be. Could also be that he's politely suggesting she's out of her mind.

"Desperately," he echoes as he finally moves, walking past her in almost a glide, surprisingly graceful for someone who looks so distinctly unfortunate. "Wouldn't you like that."

Severus slips past her out of the common room.
peremare: younger (pic#11101025)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-03-04 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Bella takes it as a compliment, of course, no matter what the intent was behind it.

Suffer through the way she nearly glows with a smug pleasure, Severus, even as she slips out of the room after him.

"Oh, I would," she breathlessly admits, falling into stride with him. There are so very few people out here, with it being evening time. After hours has never deterred her from sneaking out before. What's to stop her, reprimand? Detention?

She cuts him a look. "I imagine you'd squirm, the more unbearable it became."
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (that she still lives)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-03-09 06:21 am (UTC)(link)
She's as easy to please as she is to wind up, sometimes.

The wide variety of generations milling the grounds mean that the reactions of students who pass them can be-- interesting. Mostly shock and wonder seeing the two of them, if they're both recognized, with a scattering of business-as-usual 'Hello, Professor' nods and once young man who chokes on a gasp and stares, horrified, as Severus makes his way to his office. He ignores the kid. Crikey.

"I'm afraid I'm not beholden in such a way to beautiful women," he says, and stops with his hand on the door. "Are you following me, Ms Black?"

(That kid is still staring. Severus wills him to leave before Bella tries to eat him.)
peremare: (pic#11109899)

[personal profile] peremare 2017-03-10 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Not very many people can claim that. It makes a more convincing argument on his end, at least, that he knows her.

All the students milling about are ignored. She'd noticed the strange looks in the Great Hall--a mixture of unveiled dislike, fear, and surprise. Concerning, if only because she can't recall any of the reasons why she might've earned such open hostility. What's amusing, however, are the reactions to him. Like a curious bird, her head tilts at one boy's unabashed reaction to the professor. Dear Merlin, he looks as if he's about to piss himself.

"Is that to say you are to beautiful men, instead?"

The roundabout compliment barely phases her. How many people are fixated on looks? She already knows she and her sisters are attractive, it's the Black line's genes which makes it so. Bella, however, does not have the kind heart of her sisters. Patience thinning, she snaps at the boy, "Go away!" before turning her focus back onto Severus.

Her chin tilts up. "So what if I am?"
darkart: ( commission, dnt ) (my mood's as black as rain)

[personal profile] darkart 2017-03-16 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
"Why must there be an 'instead'?"

It's not really a compliment, anyway. She's beautiful. It's a fact like simple arithmetic, and likewise is the fact that Severus doesn't care. (Hypothetically: he'd care more about it in men than in women, simply because men are given too much leeway in all things, in his opinion. But it's only hypothetical, as there's not exactly a queue forming to bang Professor Jerkface.)

An eyebrow raises when she barks at the student (who skitters at once).

"Awfully presumptuous."
